How To Lose Weight Safely

By Gregg Hall

The “National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey” reports that over 64% of American adults (over 120 million people ) are overweight and over 30% are obese.

The Journal of the “American Medical Association” states that over 324,000 people a year die from illnesses directly caused or worsened by obesity.

According to the “Journal of Health Affairs”, being obese increases health care costs by 36% and increases medication costs 77%.

The Centers for Disease Control states that obesity is linked to: some forms of cancer, type II diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood cholesterol, coronary heart disease, congestive heart failure, sleep apnea, gout, osteoarthritis, gallstones, strokes, infertility, complications of pregnancy, and depression.

According to the U.S. Surgeon General, obesity will soon take over as the #1 cause of preventable deaths behind tobacco use.

So, how do you get the weight off and keep it off?
Almost all nutritional experts agree that the fad diets do not work. Yes, you may lose a large amount of weight, but you will not keep it off. The problem, especially in the United States is that we are a “I want it Now” society. People want to lose weight that it took them years to put on in a matter of weeks.

When you see the advertisements in the supermarket magazines such as “I lost 20 lbs in one week you must realize that this is physically impossible without cutting off a limb!

Figure on an average weight loss of three pounds, anymore than that is exceptional.

You must be on a balanced nutritional program that you will be able to maintain after losing the weight and the biggest secret which is hard for people to realize is that you need to eat less portions, but more often. The optimum is to eat every 3 hours.

While it is possible to lose a good bit of weight with just proper nutrition you will realize better results by adding exercise to your program. It only makes sense, the more calories you burn the more fat you will lose.

Fat Burning Food - The Search for the Holy Grail

By David Maillie

Fat is taboo these days. The world is at loggerheads with it and in this battle, the ace up its sleeve is the fat burning food. Though it sounds too good to be true, but fat burning food actually has the capacity to melt fat and make it easier for the body to flush it out.

The green brigade wins easily when it comes to formulating a fat burning food diet. Not only are vegetables and fruits healthy, some of them serve as the best fat burning food that is around.

Amongst the fruits, citrus fruits like orange, lemon, grapefruit and tangerine, with an abundance of Vitamin C, help in diluting the fat deposits in the body. The diluted fat is thus rendered ineffective and it also becomes easy to wash it out.

Fruits like apples and berries feature high in the fat burning food list. They contain a chemical called pectin, which limit the cells” capacity to absorb fat and also makes them release their fat holdings. If averse to fruits, soybeans, thrice weekly, will also serve the same purpose.

So if you are weighed down by ever-expanding girths, resorting to a diet rich in natural fat burning food is safer than surrendering yourself to the surgeon’’s scalpel. Take Brad Pitt’’s word for it.

Many vegetables serve as good fat burning food. Brussels sprouts and tomatoes, the latter containing vitamin C, are a must in any fat burning food list for they stimulate the pancreas and kidney to flush out the waste matter and thus cleanse the body cells.

Lettuces, radishes and horseradishes are rich in iron and magnesium, which are proven to possess fat dissolving properties. These minerals actually speed up the metabolic process, wherein the body goes into a frenzy of activity to burn down the fat deposits. Carrots and onions also find favor as fat burning food because they help in whetting up the metabolism.

Diuretics actually break down fat so that the body can readily dispose it. Beets, cucumber, garlic, cabbage and apple cider vinegar are some diuretics that are excellent fat burning food.

Any fibrous food item is probably the best natural fat burning food that you can have. Fibers not only help to rinse the body cells of their fat but also fill you up quickly and decrease the body’’s calorie absorption rate, so that you experience less hunger pangs.

Thus in any self-respecting fat burning food list should obviously contain grains, root vegetables like white and sweet potatoes, turnips, tough-skinned fruits and unsalted nuts and seeds.

A tooth for a tooth. A claw for a claw. So why not fat for fat! Liquid fats like corn, sunflower and peanut oils and fatty acids found in fishes and some vegetable oils (except coconut and palm) are natural fat burning food that help the body get rid of harmful fats and also provide the body with the requisite fat quota.

With fat burning food in your arsenal, it is good riddance to bad fat.

Diet Plan Hacks for Extreme Weight Loss

By Steven Walters

There are many things you can do to enhance your new diet plan and accelerate your weight loss efforts. Here are 10 diet plan hacks that will have you losing weight like Jared from Subway fame.

1. No to fruit juice. Most of you might think that fruit juice is good for you, but think again. Juice is fruit with the fiber removed and in addition it is often loaded with sugar. If you want fruit then have the real thing.

2. Stick to water. By drinking water and unsweetened tea (preferably green tea) you can take hundreds of calories a day out of your diet and really start to see some results immediately. Just 500 calories a day is equivalent to 1 pound a week and you can get that in just a few sodas or fruit juices. Plus water helps to flush your system. Remember that our bodies are 90% water and drinking enough helps every part of you.

3. Create a new good habit each day. Many of us eat the same things day in and day out, not because they are nourishing, but because it has become a habit. Change those bad habits into good habits. For example, I switched from a snickers bar in the middle of the afternoon to a piece of fruit. Even if you make just one small change daily they will add up over time and you”ll be much healthier.

4. Change your lifestyle. Your diet is not a one time event, it is the way you feed your body day in and day out. We often say that we are “on a diet”, but this is a misnomer because you are always on a diet. It’’s just that some diets are more healthy for us than others. Change your lifestyle so that you think of your diet as something positive that you do for yourself.

5. Get plenty of sleep. Researchers have found that lack of sleep can contribute to weight gain. Proper sleep is a necessary part of any weight loss plan. Make sure you get 7 hours a night or more to be at your best.

6. Eat 5-6 small meals per day. Yes, it may seem strange to eat 5-6 meals a day when you”re trying to lose weight, but this is the secret to getting to the next level in your fitness goals.

Eating 5-6 small meals per day is the key to a fast metabolism. Every time you eat a meal, your body’’s metabolism starts up a new spin cycle caused by the thermic effect of food.

In fact, a portion of the calories you consume are burned through the simple act of digestion. This thermic effect can range from 3% to 30%. Lean protein causes a thermic effect of up to 30%. This means you burn 30% of the calories you eat from chicken breast, fish, and egg whites. Vegetables have a thermic effect of around 20%. However, fats and refined carbohydrates have a very low thermic effect of only 3%. This is one of the reasons it’’s so easy to gain weight when you are eating lots of carbohydrates and sugars.

When you”re eating 5-6 smaller meals that are centered around high protein and fibrous vegetables, your body will burn through the calories.

A higher metabolism creates a fat-burning machine. The longer you practice this meal plan, the more muscle you”ll develop. The more muscle you develop, the faster your metabolism will become. It’’s a win-win situation.
Unfortunately, it’’s something that way too few people are taking advantage of. Most people try to starve themselves and in the process they kill their metabolism. In doing that, they also kill their fat-burning potential.

Five or six small meals a day accelerates your body’’s natural rate of calorie burning.

Best of all, frequent meals also prevents binges and controls cravings. When you”re eating every three hours, your body stays satisfied and your energy levels stay high.

7. Don”t avoid all fats. It may sound strange and counter intuitive, but it is actually a good thing to eat some fats when trying to lose weight. The fats you want to eat are the “good” fats that will help keep your immune system working and will actually help keep your metabolism higher.

They”re called essential fatty acids. You may have heard of them. They go by the name of Omega 3, Omega 6, and Omega 9 and they are essential to a healthy diet.

8. Add variety to your meals. Don”t get stuck in a rut with your diet. Eating a variety of meats, fruits and vegetables and experimenting with different herbs and spices will keep you more interested in your new diet.

9. Get your Fiber. Fiber provides several benefits to you. It makes you feel fuller so you eat less and it slows down the digestion of fats and carbohydrates so you feel full longer.

10. Eat more slowly. Americans eat their food way too fast. If you want to lose a few pounds then slow down when you eat. It can take 20 minutes after your full for the message to get from your stomach to your brain. If your stuffing food into your mouth for that 20 minutes imagine the excess calories you”re taking in. Slow down and take the time to enjoy your food.

Gastric Bypass :One Way To Control Weight Problems

By Bill Urell

Losing weight is something that many people have to face at some point in their lives. For many people it is a lifelong struggle that results in them facing the medical problems associated with obesity.

When a person becomes morbidly obese they are actually facing a much shorter life span. The human body is not equipped to carry too much extra weight. With any additional mass, many of the bodys internal organs must work harder.

One solution that many people are now turning to is gastric bypass surgery. This is a medical procedure designed to help people who are obese lose weight so that they can go on to live longer and healthier lives. Gastric bypass is not designed for a person who has just twenty or thirty pounds to lose.

A doctor may suggest gastric bypass if a person has been struggling with an obesity problem for a number of years. There are many conditions which are a direct result of being obese including diabetes and coronary artery disease. For these people they simply need to loose weight in order to prolong their lives.

Before a person can have a gastric bypass procedure they need to undergo a battery of tests. These tests will help determine whether or not their body can survive the surgery. They will also speak with a psychologist who will decide whether they are mentally and emotionally stable enough to face the consequences.

Once the surgery has been performed the real work begins. Gastric bypass involves cutting off access to the stomach. The persons digestive system is revamped so that they now only have a small pouch that is used to store food. This means that they are very restricted in what they are permitted to eat. Because their food intake is so drastically reduced during the gastric bypass operation they can no longer absorb as many calories as they once did.

Many people who undergo a gastric bypass have to completely learn to change their eating habits. This can prove to be a challenge but if they continue to eat the same as before the operation they will suffer very serious complications.

Exercise is important as well after a gastric bypass. If a person is very obese they will have to begin slowly perhaps by walking for just a few moments each day until they begin to lose the weight. Once more weight is lost they can quickly increase their exercise time each day and include activities such as riding a bike and even lifting weights.

It can be very easy to fall back into old patterns once the weight has been lost but it is important to view gastric bypass as a second chance at life. If you are fortunate enough to have the surgery and lose the weight, take great care of yourself so you never have to face those same health problems again.

You probably have seen the commercials, and you have read the advertisements. Maybe you have decided that following a diet plan like that is not for you. Maybe you cannot give up carbs so you gave up on Atkins. Perhaps weekly weigh ins are out of the question there goes Jenny Craig and Weight Watchers.

No, you do not like replacing your meals with liqui- adios Slim Fast. Maybe you do not want to think before you eat hasta luego South Beach. Perhaps you just want to eat what you want, when you want but you still want to lose weight.

But where are the weight loss tips for people who just want to live their lives without constantly focusing on their diet? Today is your lucky day. Here are some general weight loss tips that will help you feel healthy and happy and they do not require the use of any expensive shakes, meal plans or books.

Weight Loss Tips:

1. Get Support. It is important to seek support from family or friends. If that is not possible then join an online weight loss support forum.

2. If you cannot exercise for 30 minutes at a time, then break it up into three, 10 minute sessions. When you are watching TV, get up and jog during the commercials, go for a 10 minute walk during your lunch break, add 10 minutes of vigorous house cleaning to your schedule.

3. Eat what you want, but eat in moderation. You have to be aware of how many calories you are eating per day. As long as you burn more than you take in then you will lose weight.

4. Eat your largest meal during the day when your activity level is high.

5. Do not deprive yourself. Deprivation will only lead you to binging.

6. Eat when you are hungry! Do not try to starve yourself. When your body goes into starvation mode your body begins to conserve every single calorie that you eat.

7. Do not weigh yourself more than once a week. Constant weighing will only discourage you because your weightfluctuates throughout the day. In fact, ditch the scale completely! Invest in a tape measure; that will give you much more accurate results on how you are really doing.

8. Try to increase your protein. Protein helps build muscle and muscle helps burn fat.

9. Eat more fiber! It helps you feel full sooner and it has less calories.

10. Set small, attainable goals. It is unrealistic to expect to lose 40 lbs in one month. However it is very realistic to expect to lose 5 lbs in one month. Or maybe you will set a goal to stop eating sugar for a week, or maybe you will set a goal to exercise at least 4 times per week. Whatever you choose, make sure it is realistic and attainable.

11. Keep a journal of your progress. Write down your goals for the week. Write down what you are eating, how you are exercising and what is and is not working for you.

12. If you do not enjoy the exercise you are doing, pick another one. You are not going to stick to something that you dread.

13. Remember the key to weight loss is 80% what you eat and 20% exercise.

Always keep in mind that losing weight is not easy. But just think of what is more important to you eating that delicious 1000 calorie dessert and taking a nap; or making a little sacrifice to reach your
weight loss goals.

The Problem Of Obesity In America

By Cindy Heller

Obesity in America is the second leading cause of preventable death in the U.S. Approximately 130 million adults in this country are overweight, about 70 million are obese with the Body Mass Index (BMI) more than 30. Approximately 62% of female Americans and 67% of male Americans are considered overweight. Today, there are above 25% of American children are also obese or overweight. An estimated of 400,000 Americas deaths per year may be attributable to poor diet and lack of physical activity.

What can we do?

There is no doubt that obesity in America is growing. Take a look at any of the shopping mall and restaurants and you will see many, many overweight and obesity people. Why US have such a big number of obesity problems, when it is not an issue in many of our countries? What can be done to solve this problem?

Can Lifestyle be the cause?

Lifestyle seems to be one of the causes of obesity in American. Take a look at some foreign countries; people there do not drive from place to place unless they need to. I think part of the reason for this is the high price of petrol and motor vehicles. Come back to America, this is not the case here. Americans drive everywhere, especially if there can avoid walking. From the study, it is believed that almost 75% of county residents may enjoy a completely sedentary or inactive lifestyle. When you combine this eating habit with the American lifestyle and you know why obesity in America is on the rise.

Food Driven Society and Activity-Scarce Environment

Many experts are of the opinion that obesity in America is such an epidemic is because we are a food driven society and having an activity-scarce environments. The movement you switch on the television for few minutes and you will be bombarded with advertisements for fast food, restaurants, sugary drinks, and more! There are many fast food stores around the streets. It is easy to get access to too much food, and usually we eat far more than we need and with new technology making us easier to avoid exercising.

The Worksite Environment

Since the average American adult spends at least 40 hours a week at work, it is important to address nutrition and some physical activity in the worksites. Most worksites have responded to the challenge, and by 1999, a total of 95%of national worksites with above 50 employees offered nutrition, weight management classes, or counseling at the worksite or through their health plans. Individual efforts to have more physical activity at the worksite and eat healthy are confounded by the following.

- More people living farther away from workplace, thus spending more time commuting (driving replace walking/biking)

- Worksites are increasingly automated and less movement for the body

- More soft drinks and high calorie foods and snacks at worksites

The Neighborhood Environment

Modern lifestyles contribute greatly to physical inactivity. Cars are used for short trips, and the number of walking trips the average American adult takes each year has decreased 42% between 1975 and 1995. This was also true that for American child, who decreased walking trips by about 37%. Today, only about 10% of school students walk to school as compared to the majority of students one generation ago. It is no easy and challenge for Neighborhood to obtain the recommended amount of physical activity includes the following.

- The design of Neighborhood is not suitable for walking or biking

- More neighborhoods that are seeming as unsafe

- More time spent in automobiles

Treating Obesity in America

The best way to treat obesity in America is through education. The American public needs to be well informing what type of food is best for them and how can it be prepared. Restaurants should come out with smaller portions meal for the health conscious people. People need to study and know what are carbohydrates and saturated fats related to the bodies, so they can choose and the select a correct healthy food to eat. Another way to treat obesity is to have more exercise, like swimming and walking! Walking is a good exercise that anyone can do. If you can do it everyday, its can help you lost weight quickly and easily.

Help from Government

It is certainly calls for strong will to cope with the problem of obesity and Americans now before it turn to worse. This obesity problem is very serious and it is threatening tobacco to become the No. 1 cause of deaths in the America that may possibly have been prevented. The America government known the problem and has adopted some solutions, like the Medicare has opened the door to covering overweight and obesity treatments, while the Internal Revenue Service has also begun to allow tax breaks for some weight-loss programs in America.

Does Hoodia Really Work?

By Cindy Heller

This is a common question that is posed when a product enters the market place and claims to provide a host of benefits that have not been previously seen in the marketplace. This is not an arrogant or cynical question. Rather, it is a smart question to ask before investing time and money in a product that might not do what it claims to do.

In the case of the diet product, hoodia, many people have posed the question “Does hoodia really work?” Again, this is a fair question to ask as many people battling to lose excess fat need a little assurance that the product will deliver what it promises prior to making a financial investment in the product.

Does Hoodia Really Work - Realistic Expectations

When it comes to answering the question “does Hoodia really work?” the answer to the question must be rooted in realistic expectations in terms of what the product is able to deliver. That is to say, if by asking “does Hoodia really work” the person means to ask “has a miracle pill arrived?” the answer is no. If by asking “does Hoodia really work” the person is asking “has a viable dietary supplement arrived?” the answer is yes.

In other words, hoodia has been proven to aid in curbing appetite. It will not, however, cease one’’s appetite all together and allow the person to go on an extended starvation diet. (This is a good thing as such a diet would ultimately yield a number of health hazards) If one expects to take hoodia supplements and not have to eat anymore so that 30lbs can be dropped and a ”ripped to shreds” physique will be attained, then hoodia is not the product you want. In fact, the products you want may harm you.

If you are looking for a supplement that will help you cut out 200 or so additional calories a day, hoodia can help in that regard. Over time, this modest calorie reduction will add up and the end result will be noticeable weight loss. Of course, it is also important to follow a proper diet and exercise program as well. Using hoodia to mildly reduce a junk food diet is simply not the proper course of action to take because it is a bad diet that has only marginally been reduced. So, does hoodia really work? Yes, when it is used sensibly and properly.

Does Hoodia Work To Control Your Appetite?

If you”ve ever used any diet products, you”ve undoubtedly heard of hoodia. Hoodia is a natural diet supplement that is supposed to control your appetite. This is attractive to people who are trying to eat less to lose weight, but does hoodia work? According to many, it does work and there are stories to prove it. However, in order for hoodia to work, you have to use it properly and regularly but you also have to ensure that you are eating correctly if you want to lose weight. So, does hoodia work? Maybe you should try some and find out.

Your Local Nutrition Store

If you want to have the answer to does hoodia work, visit your local nutrition store and get some for yourself. You can either buy hoodia in its natural form or you can buy one of the diet and nutrition products that include hoodia. Hoodia is even sold at some smoothie shops as an ingredient in one of their nutritional shakes.

There are many other nutritional products that contain hoodia, and using them can give you a good idea on the question does hoodia work. To test hoodia, to see if hoodia does work, use it before you eat a meal. If you eat less than you normally do, then you”ll know if hoodia does indeed work. If you end up eating the same or eat more than usually do, then you”ll know that it doesn”t work. It’’s as simple as that.

However, as with most supplements, some work for some people and don”t work for others. Therefore, you may be one of the people hoodia doesn”t work for. If you are trying to lose weight, however, and you want something that will help you eat less, give hoodia a try. If it does work for you and you end up consuming fewer calories than you normally do, you can shed that extra weight in no time at all.

If hoodia does work for you and you end up eating less, that doesn”t give you license to eat whatever you want; not if you want to stay healthy that is. You should eat a diet that’’s full of fresh fruits and vegetables and make sure you eat regular meals. The idea is to use hoodia to eat less so that you can lose weight the healthy way.

The healthy way means to lose one or two pounds a week. Therefore, if you are using hoodia to lose weight, and you want to know does hoodia work, try it out along with your regular healthy diet and regular exercise program.

Revealed - The Causes Of Cellulite

By Brue Baker

Women seem to be the most bothered by cellulite since it can easily affect a woman’’s looks. It can be difficult to get rid of cellulite, however, there are some ways in which women can get rid of cellulite. Therefore, women especially, must understand the causes of cellulite if they wish to eliminate it from their bodies.

Who Else Wants To Know What Cellulite Is

Cellulite is fatty tissue that forms beneath the woman’’s skin surface and which mostly are found in their lower body parts including the butts, thighs, hips and also legs which are the most problematic areas with regard to their cellulite condition.

Moreover, cellulite, makes the skin look like it has dimples, much like what an orange peel appears to look like. Cellulite is certainly very repulsive and not at all attractive to look at, which means that women often try and cover up cellulite with items of clothing.

Before you can learn about the causes of cellulite, it is imperative that you understand that it is not necessary for a person to be overweight to suffer from cellulite, though if you are it will be more pronounced in your appearance.

Among the possible causes of cellulite are clogged up systems and also clogged lymphatic systems in which there is insufficient flow of blood and which thus allows cellulite to gather in those regions, and even when a person ages, there is less ability in the body to get rid of toxins and the fluids too loose their strength which causes toxins to gather beneath the skin and thus allows for the growth of cellulite.

Another one of the possible causes of cellulite is a lifestyle that is sedentary since if one exercises regularly there is less possibility of toxins forming. Even a vigorous massage on the parts affected by cellulite can help get rid of the condition.

A bad diet and bad habits can be termed as other causes of cellulite and a person that smokes can also be at greater risk of cellulite, which means that if you eat vegetables and fruits and remove fat and also refined foods from your diet, you will be less likely to suffer from cellulite and even drinking as many as eight glasses of water daily can prevent cellulite.

Thus, it is easy to see that the causes of cellulite are pretty much varied. With many anti-cellulite creams and natural weight loss programs, there is hope for women in that they can get rid of cellulite, naturally.

Of course exercising regularly can”t hurt either, unless your doctor advises otherwise. It also will take effort on your part to do so. A combination of using the cream, healthy diet, and exercise will do the best to get rid of your cellulite, but it takes your effort to do it. No products will do it for you, they can only help you.

How To Correctly Calculate If You\’re Obese, Overweight Or Morbidly Obese

By Karin Manning

It is necessary to know how overweight and obesity are defined and measured in scientific terms in order to do something about it.

An introduction to these things helps us understand and find our place in the chances for obesity. Calculating your chances for obesity may take a lot of patience. It is good though that our helpful health providers have devised a way for patients to determine their weight condition easily. An obesity calculator makes the process of weight measurement comprehensible and convenient to use.

The obesity calculator doesn”t actually need a special calculating device in order to use. There is a lot of free obesity calculator software in the internet, available usually in health and wellness web sites. Just a few clicks and you got your BMI. But did you know that you can compute for your BMI on your own?

The body mass index or the BMI obesity calculator is a special formula designed to measure the amount of body fat in a person’’s body. Since not all overweight people are fat people (for example body-builders), being informed of your exact BMI and the related changes in your body allows you to know as early if you are obese. And if you”re not, wouldn”t it feel good to know you”re not obese even it seems you are? Even thin people also get the advantage of knowing the balance between their lean muscles and fats. The method is fairly easy.

The BMI calculates based on the standard relationship between height and weight. Though it doesn”t measure the exact percentage of fat in your body, it does measure the (right) proportion of your fat and muscles. And since it is not gender-specific and effective as well as easy to use, it is the choice-measurement used by most obesity researchers and other health professionals.

Though you don”t need to be an expert at all. You”re already on your way to having your obesity calculator once you know your math. The BMI is computed by dividing a person’’s weight (in kilograms) by his height (in meters) squared. In figures: weight (kg) / height squared. If you want to use pounds and inches, just multiply your weight (lbs.) by 700, then divide the result by your height (in.), and then divide that again by your height in inches. A BMI that is less than 18.5 is considered underweight. A BMI of 18.5-24.9 is considered normal-weight. A BMI of 25-29.9 is considered overweight.

In essence, you will be able to have a personal conviction with your weight - health once you become knowledgeable of what goes on with of your BMI as you follow through with its development.

How To Correctly Determine A Person\’s Predisposition For Obesity

By Karin Manning

There are certain measures that health providers use in order to determine a person’’s condition for obesity. Aside from the BMI obesity calculator, the waist circumference measure is also another obesity chart determinant used to compute one’’s chances of being obese and also assessing the risk of developing diabetes, heart disease, and the other health problems related with obesity.

The exact percentage of body fat that a person has is difficult to achieve, but approximations can be made through the combination of a number of obesity chart measurements. First, using a caliper, a tweezer-like tool used to measure the thickness of skin folds on different parts of the body and then compared with standardized measurements. Small devices that send a harmless electrical current through the body and measures body fat percentage are also sometimes used.

The most commonly used obesity chart though is the Body Mass Index (BMI) determinant. A person with a BMI over 30 is considered to be obese, and a BMI over 50 is considered to be morbidly obese. Nonetheless, the BMI could be misleading as its criterion may not always be applicable or accurate for pregnant or lactating women, muscular individuals, and Asians, Hispanics, Latino, or Africans (their adjusted their BMI results define overweight if it is above 23 and obese if above 27).

Because BMI does not show the difference between fat and muscle, it does not always accurately predict when weight could lead to health problems associated with obesity. For example, a body-builder may have a BMI over 30, but he may still be healthy and have little risk of developing diabetes or having a heart attack.

BMI also may not accurately reflect fatness in people who are too short (less than 5 feet) and also in older people, who only normally tend to lose muscle mass as they age. Very muscular people would fall into the overweight category when they are actually healthy and fit. The elderly would also be in the healthy/normal weight category in their BMI when they actually have reduced nutritional reserves.

Still, as the BMI provides useful excess weight estimates, the waist circumference obesity chart locates a person’’s body fat distribution which also determines the risks in his health. Basically, if a person carries fats mainly around the waist, then he is more likely to develop health problems, than if his fats lie mainly in the hips and thighs.

This chart also standardizes that women with waist measurements more than 35-inches, or men with waist measurements more than 40-inches may have higher disease risks than people with smaller waist measurements. This is true even if the BMI falls within the normal range.

Therefore further evaluation of a patient should be performed to determine his weight/fat status and associated health risks. Although BMI is a reliable way for most people to tell if their weight is putting their health at risk, using a number of obesity chart determiners would undoubtedly allow for closer comparisons and hopefully better estimations.
